Getting Started with Biodynamics
Welcome to the world of biodynamics! We’re stoked to have you as part of the community.
No matter whether you have joined for the practical application of biodynamic preps, or for the spiritual and cosmic aspects – Biodynamics New Zealand have a massive range of educational resources and support to get you started.
Biodynamics is an approach to agriculture and gardening that views the farm or garden as a self-contained organism. It is based on the teachings of Rudolf Steiner and emphasizes the interconnectedness of soil, plants, animals, and cosmic forces.
Biodynamic practitioners strive to create a harmonious and balanced ecosystem by integrating organic farming practices, composting, crop rotation, and the use of biodynamic preparations. These preparations, made from natural substances, are applied in small amounts to enhance soil fertility, stimulate plant growth, and promote ecological balance.
Biodynamics also incorporates lunar and astrological influences in timing planting and harvesting activities. The goal of biodynamics is to cultivate healthy, vibrant ecosystems that produce nutritious food while respecting the environment and maintaining the long-term sustainability of the land.
Where to start?
A great place to start is with Su Hoskin’s free video ‘Introduction to Biodynamics’ which gives you a great overview to where biodynamics came from and some of the basic practical applications.
Harvests is a magazine produced by Biodynamics New Zealand that’s sent out to Members twice a year. There’s also a fabulous amount of free Harvests articles that have been dug out from the archives and uploaded to the website. Keep scrolling to check these out.
