Practical Biodynamics Workshop

Biodynamics offers a holistic approach to growing which can enhance any organic or regenerative growing system. It works with natures rhythms and uses the biodynamic ‘preparations’, 9 soil remedies made from plants and minerals, to create soil fertility and thriving balanced ecosystems. This workshop will be an introduction to the biodynamic approach. We will cover the main principles and practices, and you will learn the simple steps needed to get started with biodynamics in your own gardens and properties.

Please dress for the weather – part of this workshop will happen outdoors.

Practical Biodynamics for Tamariki and Whanau – Colab with Rodney Community Centre

Date: Sun 20th Sep 2026,

Time:10:00 am NZST

Biodynamics offers a holistic way of growing that works alongside nature’s rhythms – a beautiful approach for whānau to explore together in the garden. Using biodynamic “preparations” (nine soil remedies made from plants and minerals), we help build rich soil and thriving, balanced ecosystems that tamariki can see, touch, and understand. This workshop is a fun, hands-on introduction to biodynamics for the whole whānau. We’ll cover the main ideas in simple, accessible ways, and share easy first steps for bringing biodynamics into your own garden at home. Tamariki and adults alike will get stuck in making a Biodynamic Tree Paste, a natural mix used to seal pruning cuts and keep fruit trees healthy. It’s a great sensory activity for little hands!

Bring a jar if you’d like to take some tree paste home to use in your own garden.

Come dressed for the outdoors — part of this workshop happens outside, so wear clothes (and bring gloves) that can get dirty.

We’ll be handling cow manure, so gumboots are a good idea too!Hot drinks and afternoon tea provided for the grown-ups — and something yummy for the tamariki too.

Biodynamics for Tamariki & Whānau- session two

Date: 8th Nov 2026

Time:10:00 am NZST

Kia ora anō!
Following on from our first biodynamics workshop, this session is a chance to check back in on what we started — and go a little deeper.
We’ll begin with a garden walk to see how things have settled since last time: how the soil is looking, whether the tree paste has done its job sealing those pruning cuts, and what changes tamariki and whānau might have noticed in their own gardens at home over the month.
This time we’ll focus on Biodynamic Preparation 500 (horn manure) — stirring it together as a whānau activity and spreading it across the gardens. Stirring is a wonderfully hands-on, rhythmic task that tamariki love being part of, and it’s a great way to talk about how biodynamics works with the seasons and the soil’s natural cycles.
We’ll also cover:
  • A simple recap of the biodynamic principles from session one, for anyone who’s new or needs a refresher
  • How to read the biodynamic calendar and choose good days for planting, sowing, and harvesting at home
  • Tips for keeping up biodynamic practices in your own backyard between sessions
Bring a jar again if you’d like to take some finished preparation home, and dress for the outdoors as before – gloves and clothes you don’t mind getting dirty (we’ll be back in the manure again!).
Hot drinks and afternoon tea provided.
Tickets available here.
